Equal Opportunity Notification Statements Required for University Publications

The University of Kansas Medical Center is obligated to notify students, residents, employees, applicants and the general public of its Affirmative Action, equal opportunity, nondiscrimination and accommodation policies. The statements used vary with the type of material being distributed and the intended audience.

This Web page provides THREE EASY STEPS to ensure publications meet legal obligations and reflect the University's AA/EO/anti-discrimination commitment.

STEP 1: Locate the appropriate publication type for the name of required statement(s),
STEP 2: Identify the intended audience of the publication (General Public, Alumni, etc.) and
STEP 3: Utilize the statement(s) for the required language for your publication and intended audience.

Other Consideration

  • When including photographs, represent all types of people.

Include both females and males, persons of color, persons of varying ages, and persons with disabilities. Publications which have a wide external distribution not only generate scrutiny, but will also constitute evidence of the University's good faith efforts towards achieving diversity.

  • If you are asked to provide an alternate format...

Departments are responsible for responding to such requests and providing alternate formats. Alternate formats can be provided in a variety of ways, including the following:

  • Braille - publication may be printed in Braille using a Braille printer.
  • Large Print - to provide a publication in a larger size, reprint the document using a larger font (30 point or larger is recommended).
  • Tape Recording - a tape recording of someone reading a publication may be provided as an alternative to producing a Braille copy of a long publication.

If you are issuing a contract to a service provider or other vendor, AA/EEO language is required. Please contact the EOO for specific guidance before developing or issuing such a contract.

Academic course syllabi statement

When preparing course syllabi, include the following statement: "Any student with a disability who is taking this course and needs an accommodation to complete the course requirements should contact the instructor or the Equal Opportunity/Disability Specialist at 913-588-1206 or TDD 913-588-7963.
