Reaffirmation of University Policy on Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action
October 24, 2007
The University of Kansas Medical Center is committed to maintaining an inclusive community which recognizes and values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; fosters tolerance, sensitivity, understanding and mutual respect among its members; and encourages each individual to strive to reach his/her own potential. Therefore, the University reaffirms its commitment to providing equal employment and educational opportunity without regard to race/ethnicity, color, religion, sex, including marital status, national origin, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status. Genetic testing and screening is prohibited in regards to employment decisions.
The University of Kansas Medical Center is also committed to affirmative action for women, Asian/Pacific Islanders, Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians/Alaska Natives, persons with disabilities and veterans. This commitment is expressed through the University’s efforts to eliminate barriers to equal employment opportunity as documented in its annual Affirmative Action Plan.
As an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, KUMC will:
- Recruit, hire, train and promote persons in all job titles without regard to race/ethnicity, color, religion, sex, including marital status, national origin, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status and genetic testing or screening.
- Ensure that all employment and academic decisions are based upon legitimate, valid criteria and conform to the principles of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination.
- Ensure that equal opportunity in employment applies to all terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to: recruitment, hiring, training, promotion, transfer, discipline, benefits, salary, social and recreational programs.
KUMC’s affirmative action/equal opportunity policies and procedures are located on the Equal Opportunity Office’s web site (
www.kumc.edu/eoo/policies.html). I have designated Jayne Owen, Director of the Equal Opportunity Office, as the individual with overall responsibility for implementing these policies. The Equal Opportunity Office is located at 3901 Rainbow Boulevard – 1054 Wescoe (MS 2014), Kansas City, Kansas, 66160.
