The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which was signed by President Obama on January 29, 2009, expands the protection and damages available to plaintiffs in pay discrimination law suits. Click here for more information.


On September 25, 2008 former president George W. Bush signed into law the American with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA). The ADAAA became effective on January, 1 2009. This law broadens the definition of disability, increases the list of major life activities and adds the new category of Major Bodily Functions.

In September of 2008 the EEOC issued "The ADA: Applying Performance and Conduct Standards to Employees with Disabilities". Click here for more information.

EEOC Issues Guidance to Prevent Discrimination of Working Caregivers

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently issued its first guidance for employers regarding care giver-related concerns. As the number of employees with elder and child care demands grows, more workers are filing lawsuits claiming they’ve been discriminated against on the job because of their family care giving obligations. According to EEOC guidelines, discrimination against care giving employees may violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
