Liver cell.  Mouse (385316)

liver cell, mouse

The liver cell is rich in mitochondria, rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, and microbodies. Lipid droplets of various sizes are empty because their contents were extracted during tissue preparation. A bile canaliculus between these cells is shown in the lower left field. A sinusoid in the upper center field is lined by a discontinuous endothelium with many gaps in the cytoplasm.  The narrow interstitial area between the endothelial cell and the surface of the liver cell  is called the space of Disse. Microvilli from the liver cell extend into the space.
