In the event of a major winter storm or other inclement weather, this is a reminder of how KUMC would communicate with faculty, staff and students should a declaration of inclement weather result in a delay of operations and/or cancellation of classes. KUMC will remain open for business and will hold classes as scheduled unless particularly hazardous weather conditions threaten the area. If conditions significantly deteriorate throughout the day and/or overnight, we will issue a declaration of "inclement weather."
Providing notification to the Kansas City campus community:
If a declaration of "inclement weather" is made, the university will make every effort to inform the campus community as soon as possible. When inclement weather occurs overnight, by 5:45 a.m. we will:
Finally, we will use local media outlets WDAF (Fox4) KMBC-TV 9, and/or KCTV-5 only if inclement weather results in our delaying or canceling classes or closing the campus.
Should a declaration of inclement weather be made during the day, the campus community will be notified via critical information e-mail and/or telephone contacts and web updates.
Maintaining Essential Programs and Services:
Vice Chancellors, Deans, Directors and Chairpersons must determine minimum staffing requirements to ensure the maintenance of essential programs and activities. Any non-exempt employees whose services have been identified by their department heads as essential are expected to report to work in accordance with the supervisor's instructions. These persons shall be eligible for overtime or compensatory time related to work performed pursuant to a declaration of inclement weather. Some examples of essential services include maintenance of building operations, clearing of walkways, streets and parking lots, student residence hall services, and public safety.
