Evacuation - Persons with Disabilities

If you are unable to evacuate:

  1. Shelter in place in an area with no immediate hazards and dial 911 (landline) or 913-588-5030 (cell phone). Advise the dispatcher of your location
  2. If unable to call 911, advise others around you of your location and have them inform emergency personnel of your location
  3. If you are in no immediate danger, remain where you are and wait for emergency personnel to arrive
  4. If you are in immediate danger, move to an area where you can shelter in place dependent on the situation (i.e. in a fire, move to a room with an outside window or sprinkler system; in a tornado move to an inner core room with no windows)
  5. DO NOT use elevators during an emergency evacuation unless requested by KUPD of KCK Fire Department
  6. All staff is encourage to carry a sounding device like a small whistle, flashlight, and cell phone to alert emergency personnel of your location
Note: It is best to have pre-planned arrangements for evacuations assistance. Work with your department manager to discuss evacuation options and special items needed, than add to the Deparment Emergency Plan. Having a plan and practicing it may save your life.
