
Evacuation - Persons with Disabilities
If you are unable to evacuate:
- Shelter in place in an area with no immediate hazards and dial 911 (landline) or 913-588-5030 (cell phone). Advise the dispatcher of your location
- If unable to call 911, advise others around you of your location and have them inform emergency personnel of your location
- If you are in no immediate danger, remain where you are and wait for emergency personnel to arrive
- If you are in immediate danger, move to an area where you can shelter in place dependent on the situation (i.e. in a fire, move to a room with an outside window or sprinkler system; in a tornado move to an inner core room with no windows)
- DO NOT use elevators during an emergency evacuation unless requested by KUPD of KCK Fire Department
- All staff is encourage to carry a sounding device like a small whistle, flashlight, and cell phone to alert emergency personnel of your location
Note: It is best to have pre-planned arrangements for evacuations assistance. Work with your department manager to discuss evacuation options and special items needed, than add to the Deparment Emergency Plan. Having a plan and practicing it may save your life.
