Rave Guardian FAQs
Is this for all KUMC University and Hospital campuses?
Currently this system is only for Main Campus. For the purposes of this roll out Main Campus includes: Kansas City campus, Westwood campus, CRC campus, Fairway North campus, Dialysis campus. We will test the system and the applicability to see if it would be beneficial to roll out to other outlying campuses.
Is my privacy protected?
Pro-file data is stored privately and securely within Rave Mobile Safety's redundant and geographically diverse databases. Your profile can only be viewed by whomever you designate as a Guardian when your timer expires, or to Public safety when you send a tip or you dial 9-1-1 (depending on campus location).
Can Rave Guardian track me?
Rave Guardian and Smart911 can allow your Guardian to locate your approximate location when your timer expires or Public Safety to locate your approximate location when you place a "KUMC Police" call (Main Campus only). However, it cannot be used to locate you without your knowledge. Your profile and location (if you have enabled the location service) are only available to your Guardian or Public Safety when your timer expires or you call 9-1-1.
My phone won't download the app?
There could be many reasons for this: your memory may be full, you may have restrictions on your phone, etc. It is best to start by contacting your cell phone carrier to assist you with the download.
Do I have to have push notifications turned on for Rave Guardian?
We recommend that you allow notifications from Rave Guardian. This will alert you when your timer is about to run out, when you've received a response from KUMC dispatch, or when someone has requested you as a Guardian.
Is Public Safety notified when my timer expires?
No. Public Safety is not notified of your timer expiring. You must set up a Guardian, and ensure your Guardian is notified of your timer being set. Upon expiration of your timer, your Guardian should ensure you are okay, or contact 9-1-1.
Does Rave Guardian work off-campus?
The features of the app will work off-campus; however, if you have an emergency at an off-campus location you should dial 9-1-1, or press the "call 9-1-1" button within the app. If you call campus police from the app and are not on campus, they will refer you to your local 9-1-1. Additionally, the tip feature is for campus locations only. If you send a tip that is not on campus, the case will be closed.
Does Smart911 work off-campus?
Currently, the other closet location using Smart911 is Douglas County. You can determine if additional Smart911 locations are added by checking this site.
What should I include in my profile?
The more information you provide, the more Public Safety knows if they need to assist you in an emergency. At a minimum, your address (home and school), your physical description and a recent photo are great places to start. If you have a particular health issue or other personal safety concern, you can include that information as well. YOU decide what YOU provide.
Are the tips sent through Rave Guardian anonymous?
No. To provide you the best customer service, our dispatch team has to have a way to contact you for tips. However, all tips will be confidential in accordance with our Police Policies. For anonymous reporting, please submit an anonymous email through Ask the Chief.
Does Rave Guardian require users to have a certain kind of phone?
No, it works on any phone and any carrier.
Is Rave Guardian always tracking me?
No, your privacy is of utmost importance. You can only be located if you have asked for help and Rave Guardian is only enabled when you choose to activate an alarm on your phone.
Will Rave Guardian let other people like my family or friends track me if they are not KUMC affiliates?
Yes, if you assign "Guardians" during any individual, "timed" usage, they will have the capability to track your status. But remember that you are in full control of this feature. It only works when you program it to. You must request them as Guardians, they must download the app that is sent to them, and they must accept you to be a Guardian.

I have provided multiple phone numbers, which phones will work with Guardian?
Why can't I see the "Call KUMC Police" Button?
The "Call KUMC Police" button is specifically for Main Kansas City Campus buildings (including Westwood, Dialysis, CRC and Fairway North). This is because the main campus has an accredited police for to respond as needed. If you have an emergency in an outlying building, the quickest way to get response is by calling 9-1-1 or using the "Call 9-1-1" button within the app.
