Searching Our Catalog: Getting Started

If you know what you're looking for and just want to better understand how to best use our catalog, this is for you. Here's how to begin:

  • Type the title of the print or electronic book or journal in the search box at http://library.kumc.edu. You can also search by Author, Subject, Call Number or ISBN/ISSN.
  • Click Find to view your results.
  • Use the filters on the right side of the page to limit your search if necessary. You can filter by Library, Collection, Format, Call Number, and more.
    • Ex: Under Library, if you click the Dykes Library (Kansas City), an orange box at the top right corner will indicate the Library: Dykes Library (Kansas City) filter is applied and your results will now only show items from Dykes Library.
    • To remove this filter, just click on the orange box and you will now see your original results (without any filters).
  • Take a look at our item-specific searching tips below. You can view additional catalog features here. And remember, if you can't find what you're looking for at our library, order it through InterLibrary Loan!

Searching for a Book or Journal in Print

  • Follow our Getting Started tutorial above.
  • After applying filters (if needed), find your book or journal title listed in your results. Note the location, the items availability and call number. Click on the title to open the record for additional holdings information.
  • Visit the Public Services desk for help retrieving the item, or to check it out. And remember, if the item is checked out, you can ask to place the item on hold!
