Model of Our Mission

The mission of each of us and all of us in the University of Kansas Medical Center Community is to create and foster work and learning environments that support growth, enhance potential, and promote appreciation and respect for each of us and all of us in pursuit our organizational goals.

Each of us and all of us embrace our diversity and the inherent evolving process by which each of us contributes unique backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values, and beliefs to promote the ongoing research, healthcare, and teaching missions of the Medical Center Community.

Each of us uses our diversity to strengthen all of us as we cooperate to solve problems, foster creativity, stimulate growth, pursue excellence, value service and continually increase the effectiveness of each of us and all of us. Our differences and similarities provide us the opportunity to gain from the insights and perspectives of each of us and all of us.

This mission challenges each of us and all of us to change the culture of our medical center community, to such an extent that our community recognizes that we have changed and believes that we are going to continue to change in support of diversity.

Changing the culture of our medical center community is an evolutionary process. It means changing the way we treat each of us and all of us:

  • How we make decisions
  • How we listen to one another
  • How we relate to differences
  • How we apply standards of fairness and equity
  • How we structure our systems and practices
  • How we develop our Human Resources
  • How we appreciate one another
  • How we communicate with one another

It means change for each of us and all of us!

Each of us and all of us recognize that this change will not be undertaken without difficulty and resistance. Even the most positive change may at first appear daunting because change often requires us to leave our comfort zones and to venture forth into unfamiliar endeavors. This process is essential. It is how each of us and all of us grow as individuals and as a community.

To move forward, change must be more than a platitude. Commitment to change is essential. Real change evolves only through dedicated development and continuous commitment to systems and practices designed to foster, deliver, and reinforce new methods.

Change will begin as we learn to ask questions and to listen to the ideas expressed by each of us and all of us. After listening, we develop actions to support change as a commitment to our belief that words must be supported by action.

The mission of each of us and all of us is to move forward constantly and consistently to continue to develop systems, actions, and measures to enhance diversity in our medical center community, and, thereby, to enhance our missions of education, health care, research, and service.

Diversity is the mission of each of us and all of us!
