Letter from the Dean of Students

Welcome to the Community Outreach Program of KUMC. The Community Outreach Program is a service organization at the University of Kansas Medical Center, composed of interns from the Schools of Nursing,Graduate Studies and Allied Health. Interns commit to serving 135 hours of volunteer work in Wyandotte County over the academic year. This program, started by Dean Dorothy Knoll in 1995, is focused to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the cultural, economic, environmental, and social issues in their local communities. It is important for the future healthcare leaders tounderstand and appreciate the issues that affect patients as well as their families. The Community Outreach Program is committed to show professionalism, support, and care to the community that gives KUMC its home.

Mission Statement

As members of the Community Outreach Program, we strive to take the next step in fostering community relationships by sharing resources, building potential, and developing advocacy. Through thoughtful communication, passionate teamwork, and cultural development, we hope to empower our peers and ourselves to commit to a lifetime of volunteerism.
