The KUMC Radiation Safety Manual details the policies and regulations applicable to the handling of radioactive materials and radiation–producing equipment at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
The policies and regulations stated in this Manual are incorporated into the KUMC Radioactive Materials License.
Failure by University personnel to observe these policies and regulations may result in citations, fines and/or removal of the University’s Radioactive Materials License by state or Federal agencies.
Failure to follow applicable rules and regulations by Authorized Users and Radiation Workers may result in warnings and/or other actions, which could include the removal of authorization to use radioactive materials, by the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) or by the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Office.
The Radiation Safety Manual is designed to be a practical guide for the ordering, possession, use and disposal of radioactive material and radiation-producing equipment at KUMC.
The Manual cannot cover every contingency or question. Detailed information on the regulations and policies may be obtained from the EHS Office at 913-588-1081.
Radioactive waste is removed from the lab by the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Office.
