The EHS office and Radiation Safety Officers are committed to ensuring radiation workers receive any assistance necessary to keep their radiation exposure as low as they reasonably can. We strive to be a resource that workers can contact at any time and be assured that they will receive clearly communicated, effective, and friendly advice on any radiation safety needs.
Radiation Safety Manual: Link to the Radiation Safety Manual (Revised 5/17/2013)
As part of the KUMC Radioactive Materials license, the Radiation Safety Manual details the policies and regulations applicable to the handling of radioactive materials and radiation–producing equipment at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Radiation Safety Manual is designed to be a practical guide for the ordering, possession, use and disposal of radioactive material and radiation-producing equipment at KUMC.
However, the manual cannot cover every contingency or question. Detailed information on the regulations and policies may always be obtained from the EHS Office by contacting us by phone, email, or in person (G032 Wescoe).
Failure by University personnel to observe these policies and regulations may result in citations, fines and/or removal of the University’s Radioactive Materials License by state or federal agencies. It could also result in warnings and/or other actions, which could include the removal of authorization to use radioactive materials, by the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) or by the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Office.
Radioactive waste is removed from the lab by the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Office.
