Chemical Safety
Homeland Security Requirements and Instructions
The Department of Homeland Security has issued Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) for any facility that manufactures, uses, stores, or distributes certain chemicals above a specified quantity. Those chemicals and quantities are in Appendix A of the standard; there are 300 chemicals in Appendix A. If a facility possesses these chemicals, above a specified quantity, it triggers a requirement to report this information to the Department of Homeland Security. The University of Kansas Medical Center has many of these chemicals. Therefore it is imperative that we keep track of these chemicals.
The University utilizes a program called EHS assist to track these chemicals. Please contact Ryan Lickteig to have your lab registered to use this program.
Below is a link to the list of 300 chemicals listed by the Department of Homeland Scecurity's "Chemicals of Interest."
