Hazard Communication

Hazard Communication at KUMC is a process that is in place to improve awareness of chemicals, their hazards and how to handle them safely.

Commonly referred to as "HazCom," the system focuses on chemical safety, but also contains information and instructions about chemical inventories, labeling, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), previously known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and training.  For further information on the "HazCom" training please refer to its training in Chalk.

The overall KUMC Chemical Hygiene Plan can be found at the following website: http://www.kumc.edu/Documents/compliance/safety/Chemical%20Hygiene%20Plan.pdf.

An individual Chemical Hygiene plan should be developed for all individual labs. While it has all of the requirements for the campus "HazCom" program, it allows for greater flexibility of personnel working in a laboratory environment.
