KU Medical Center Community Partnership Award

This award recognizes a team for excellence in community engagement, as demonstrated by a project or event which addresses a critical health issue in the community.  Community engagement, according to the Carnegie Classification Project (McCormick & Zhao, 2055), "describes the collaboration between higher education institutions and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity."

Award recipients receive $10,000 payable to the project if on-going or to the community organization.

Criteria
The project must be led by a team with at least one University of Kansas Medical Center faculty member and one community-based organization.

Other considerations include:

  • Involvement of KU Medical Center students, staff and/or additional faculty,
  • Involvement of multiple community organizations,
  • Geographical location for the project or event (preference is given to underserved and/or rural Kansas communities),
  • Measurable benefit to the community, and
  • Sustainability of the project or benefits to the community.

Nomination Process
Nominations require electronic submission of:

  • Nomination form
  • Narrative (no more than two pages) describing how the project has improved the health of Kansans and/or Midwesterners. The narrative should include the health issue addressed, the community where the work occurred, and how KU Medical Center invested in the community to ensure enduring benefits.

Nominations also require the submission of:

  • Two letters of support from community partners addressing how the project worked with the community to respond to a community need, and how the project continues to benefit the community.

Letters of support should be submitted by email to outreach@kumc.edu or by mail to:
Cori Ast
