Community Leader Student Award

This award recognizes a KU Medical Center student who demonstrates an exemplary commitment to improving the health of a rural or underserved community. One student is chosen each academic year to receive the $600 award.

All enrolled students at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KU School of Medicine in Salina and KU School of Medicine in Wichita are eligible. This award is administered by the Division of Student Services. The recipient will be announced at the Student Leader Reception.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The nominee must be enrolled at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KU School of Medicine in Salina or KU School of Medicine in Wichita during the 2012-2013 academic year.
  • Students are only eligible to win this award once.

Application Process

A completed application packet will include:

  • Student Community Leader Award application
  • A current copy of the nominee's resume or curriculum vita
  • At least two (and no more than four) letters of support submitted on his or her behalf, completed by students, faculty, staff, community members or others who discuss the benefit the nominee has had on the community.

Complete application packets must be sumbitted online on Friday, March 1, 2013 by 4 p.m. Incomplete packets will not be accepted. All students nominated for this award, as well as the award winner, will be recognized at the Student Leader Reception on April 23, 2013, 3-5 p.m. in the School of Nursing Atrium.

Instructions

Students should fully complete the necessary application pieces through their login on The Beat. All pieces of the application, including the letters of support, must be received at the same time. Any information submitted will be shared with members of the awards committee.
