KU Medical Center Outreach Aircraft Program

KU JetThe Outreach Aircraft Program provides transportation for KU Medical Center providers and faculty to various locations statewide for education, research and service activities. Activities may include community-engaged research projects, health professional community education, rural student education purposes, planning meetings, and other related functions. These trips ensure that KUMC can meet the health care needs of local communities and the state in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

 Aircraft Usage Procedure

Please see the calendar of upcoming flights below. If you are interested in reserving a seat on a scheduled flight, please contact Sherry Pryor or (620) 235-4040. You may be asked to complete a flight request form.

If you are the first person to reserve a seat on the flight, you will be designated as the after-hours contact person.  As the after-hours contact person, the pilot will contact you in the event of any change in the flight schedule. Furthermore, the after-hours contact person is responsible for taking all necessary steps to inform the passengers, destination site, ground transportation, and any other affected entities of changes to the original flight plans.

The week prior to a flight, the Scheduling Officer will call to confirm all flight information and follow up with an itinerary that includes departure and arrival times, plane and pilot information.  If there are not at least 4 travelers for a flight, the flight may be canceled.

 Fees

To help offset the cost of the scheduled flights, an administrative fee will now apply for each university employee who travels on the university aircraft. At the time of the seat request, a university account number will be requested. Only accounts with State funds may be used, and will be processed on an interfund voucher. If the proposed account or funds cannot be processed on an interfund voucher, such as Research Institute or Endowment funds, they are not eligible to be used for the flight. If there is any uncertainty, your administrator can assist you regarding the interfund voucher requirement. The following are the fees for 2017 flights:

  • Salina, Wichita – $125 per person
  • Hays – $150 per person
  • Garden City, Goodland – $175 per person

To request a separate flight not listed here for your project or department, please complete a flight request form and coordinate details with Lori Montgomery, Scheduling Officer, KU Aviation Services at lmontgomery@ku.edu or (785) 864-4694.  Any special flights scheduled using this process will be funded by the individual or department requesting the flight. As described above, only state accounts/funds are eligible for supporting the cost of flights on the KU aircraft.
