Peace Officers Memorial

Memorial service: KU Medical Center observed Peace Officers Memorial Day May 17. The day pays tribute to the local, state and federal peace officers who have died in the line of duty. At the ceremony, James Durst, safety and security officer I, was presented with the Public Safety Employee of the Year award, and Sgt. Jeneb Coleman was given the Officer of the Year award.

Parking survey

The university and hospital are now managing parking together, and leadership wants to know how to make the parking experience better. Please take a few minutes to complete the parking survey. The deadline to take the survey is Friday, May 27.

Construction updates: Crews will begin to remove areas of the sidewalk on the south side of 39th Street this week. Pedestrians will be routed to a temporary walkway, which will serve as an entrance to and exit from the Orr Major building. Also, the overhang on the north side of Orr Major will be locked off in preparation of the overhang demolition. The student lockers in the overhang will be relocated to the 1st floor hallways in Orr Major.

PeopleAdmin upgrade: The human resources department is pleased to announce the transition to an upgraded version of the applicant tracking portal, PeopleAdmin 7.0. The new upgrade will enhance and improve the applicant experience, as well as improve recruitment efforts and workflows. Read more.

Child care center update: For several years, the cross-functional KUMC Child Care Task Force has been working on the possibility of providing child care on campus. Last spring a child care needs assessment was conducted on campus, and based on survey results, the task force began researching options and determining next steps. To hear more about progress and next steps, you are invited to attend an informational session at noon on Tuesday, June 7, in the SON Auditorium. Add to your calendar.

A Healthy U: The 2016 A Healthy U program and incentive structure have been finalized and are posted on the A Healthy U website. You may also download the June-August events calendar and/or email ahealthyu@kumc.edu if you would like to receive email reminders about upcoming events.

Campus-wide Leadership Series: All employees are invited to the final leadership series, "There Is No I in Team," noon-1 p.m., Battenfeld Auditorium. Bill Self, KU men's basketball head coach, and Joe Carter, baseball legend, will talk about their mentors, journey to fame and team philosophy. Sign up. Faculty Affairs and Development workshop: The School of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Development is offering the "Facilitating Small Group Learning Workshop," noon-4:30 p.m., June 9, SON B018. This team-based and case-based learning will be facilitated by Jack Kues, Ph.D., associate dean of continuous professional development at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Sign up.

Navy commission ceremony: Gunnery Sgt. Justin Williams, who received his BSN degree from the KU School of Nursing in May, was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during a special ceremony on campus. Read more.
