New benefit: group life insurance for spouses

During a special open enrollment Feb. 1-28, employees will have the opportunity to purchase Optional Group Life Insurance (OGLI) coverage for spouses. In addition, the open enrollment applies to employees who want to begin participating or add to their existing coverage. New or additional coverage will become effective on May 1, 2014.

You do not have to have OGLI for yourself to add coverage for your spouse and can elect up to $25,000 of coverage that is guaranteed with no health questions asked. If you choose higher coverage amounts, medical underwriting will be required, and heath questions will need to be answered. You can also increase your employee optional life insurance coverage by adding up to $25,000 on top of what you already have. This additional coverage will be issued without health questions as long as you have not been previously declined by Minnesota Life, our OGLI insurer. If you do not currently have OGLI coverage, now is the time to enroll for coverage. See the chart below.
