Lessons learned from power outage

Thank you for all of the great feedback from the Aug. 13 power outage. We will have a full After Action Review for you next week in KUMed Central as we identified plenty of improvement opportunities. Some of the main ones that we will be following up on include:

  • More frequent communication on status of the event
  • Communication informing employees what's expected of them or how they can help
  • Education on RAVE alerts and difference between RAVE and Alertus uses
  • Improved emergency lighting and exit signage
  • Continuity Planning

However, most people seemed to enjoy some aspects of the "forced break" in the day. Personnel made great use of their time and the weather during the outage. Some went outside to get some healthy extra steps in while enjoying the great landscaping and others worked through building items with their neighboring occupants. Diane Clark from Landon Center on Aging said, "It was great! People actually came out of their offices and talked with one another - maybe we can do a mock power outage each month!" Other people caught up on their office filing and other "to do" items that are usually lost in the mix when internet is accessible. Again, thank you to everyone for being patient and productive.

As the after action report gets completed, we are still happy to take any additional comments you have, please send them to uem@kumc.edu.
