PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS
University of Kansas course numbers are noted in parentheses. Equivalent courses from other institutions will be accepted pending transcript evaluation.

First Two Years :

English (6 hours)

• • Composition (ENGL 101, 3 hrs.)
• • Critical Reading and Writing (ENGL 102, 3 hrs.)

 Communication Studies (3 hours)

• Speaker-Audience Communication (COMS 130 or COMS 131, 3 hrs.);
  or
  Reason and Argument (PHIL 148, 3 hrs.);
  or
  Introduction to Symbolic Logic (PHIL 310, 3 hrs.)

Mathematics (6 hours)

• Algebra (MATH 101, 3 hrs.)
  or
  Precalculus Mathematics (MATH 104, 3 hrs.)
  or
  Calculus I (MATH 115, 3 hrs.)
• Elementary Statistics (MATH 365, 3 hrs.)
  or
  Introduction to Biostatistics (BIOL 570, 3 hrs.) or equivalent
  or
  Statistics in Psychological Research (PSYC 210, 3 hrs.)
  or
  Introduction to Social Research (SOC 310, 3 hrs.)

Biology (10 hours)

• Principles of Molecular and Cellular Biology (BIOL 150, 4 hrs.)
• Principles of Human Physiology (BIOL 246, 3 hrs.)
  or
  BIOL 408 Physiology of Organisms (3)
  or
  BIOL 646 Mammalian Physiology (4) 
  -- Combination Anatomy/Physiology courses do not fulfill this requirement
• Principles of  Genetics (BIOL 350, 3 hrs.)
  or
  - some community college genetics may be accepted

Chemistry (13-15 hours)

• Foundations of Chemistry I & II (CHEM 184 & 188, 10 hrs.)
• Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry (CHEM 622, 3 hrs.)
  or
  Organic Chemistry I (CHEM 624, 3 hrs.)
• Organic Chemistry I Laboratory (CHEM 625, 2 hrs.)

Microbiology (5 hours)

• Fundamentals of Microbiology (BIOL 400, 3 hrs.)
• Fundamentals of Microbiology Laboratory (BIOL 402, 2 hrs.)

 Liberal Arts and Sciences Courses (12 hours)

• Humanities - 2 courses, 6 hrs.
• Social science electives - 2 courses, 6 hrs.

Clinical Laboratory Sciences (1 hour recommended)

• Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS 210, 1 hr.)

The following courses are included during the 1st year (junior year) of the professional program. Students with previous credit for these courses or equivalent will not need to enroll in them if they earned a C or better in the course:

• Immunology (BIOL 503, 3 hrs.)
• Biochemistry (BIOL 600 or equivalent, 3 hrs.)
