Fellowships

The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) offers an accredited three-year fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics.  The CCHD has a respected tradition of training and clinical research, and receives substantial funding through grants from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities grant) and the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD).  There is particular strength in interdisciplinary team evaluation and in management of children with cognitive impairment, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.  Fellows also work closely with the Pediatric Residency, the Division of Behavioral Pediatrics, and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Prior to ACGME accreditation, Kansas City’s Hall Family Foundation funded a collaborative Developmental-Behavioral Pediatric fellowship training program that promoted cooperation between KUMC and the Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH).  The complementary strengths of these two academic institutions resulted in a unique depth and breadth of clinical, educational, and research expertise. Although each institution now has an accredited fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, collaboration for fellowship training continues.  Fellows in the KUMC program have opportunities for clinical, didactic, and research experience at CMH.  The KUMC fellowship also maintains affiliation agreements with a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician in private practice, and with a number of schools and community agencies.
