Educational Programs
The Burnett Burn Center staff are involved with several community outreach educational programs. Below is a general list outlining these programs. Educational programs are considered based on request, according to need, and as staff time allows. Contact the Clinical Nurse Specialist at 913-588-6539 for more information.
- Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) Course
this course is sponsored by the American Burn Association and is targeted to nurses, physicians and paramedics. The focus of the course is on initial treatment, stabilization, and triage of the burn injured patient. This is an 8 hour course with a written test and oral examination at the conclusion.
The Burnett Burn Center is offering two Advanced Burn Life Support Provider Courses. The dates are August 3 and August 23, 2006. Course times are 7:30am – 4:30pm. The participation fee is funded by a grant through the Continuing Education Department of KUJMC. For details, please contact Christina Roth at 913-588-4493, or by email at croth@kumc.edu.
- School Re-entry Program
this program is for burned children returning to school to ease the transition from hospitalization back into the school environment.
- Community Burn Prevention and Burn Education
A wide variety of burn prevention and general burn education programs are available. The burn prevention programs can be tailored for specific needs and age groups.
- Pre-Hospital Emergency Personnel
Programs are available for Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedics, Firefighters, Nurses and Physicians on the emergency management of burn patients.
