Cardio-Oncology Clinic

Our Cardio-Oncology Clinic, collaboration with Mid America Cardiology, provides an assessment for patients of cardiac risk factors post breast cancer. Patients with three identified risk factors (listed below) and no active symptoms may be scheduled for this clinic.

Cardiology staff will review risk factors and consider prevention options for heart disease with patients during this appointment. Follow up scans and care are scheduled at these appointments. If patients are experiencing active symptoms they are encouraged to contact MAC immediately at 913-588-9700. Referrals for this clinic are often made during Survivorship Routine Care clinics.

Patients from outside the KU Med community are welcome to schedule appointments in this clinic as well. If interested in making an appointment, we ask that patients prepare the following items and call the Survivorship Center to schedule an appointment.

Risk Factors

  • Family history of heart disease
  • Hypertension
  • Elevated Cholesterol
  • Smoking history
  • Overweight
  • History left chest wall radiation
  • Anthracycline-based chemotherapy
  • Herceptin chemotherapy
  • High dose chemotherapy

If you have seen a cardiologist please bring the following:

  • Echocardiogram results
  • EKG results
  • Cardiac Stress tests

All patients should bring the following:

Blood Pressure Readings (if done at home)

  • Labs done with outside primary care physician
  • Fasting Lipid Profile Results (Cholesterol testing) **

Risk Assessments are also available for patients without three risk factors or personal history through Mid America Cardiology’s risk reduction clinic. To schedule an appointment contact MAC at 913-588-9700.
