Genetic Counseling and Testing
Genetic testing is available for patients whose family history strongly suggests hereditary breast cancer. A breast medical oncologist and/or a cancer risk counselor will evaluate each individual's personal and family history, and make appropriate recommendations. However, the majority of women with breast cancer in their family do not meet clinical guidelines for testing. Genetic testing is performed by drawing a tube of blood that is sent to Myriad Genetics. This service can be billed through your insurance company or you may pay privately.
