KU Medical Center is one of only two level one trauma centers in the metropolitan Kansas City area. This means that we are constantly exposed to all forms of trauma; from motor vehicle accidents with multi-system trauma to penetrating injuries. These patients present the trainee with critical experience in making rapid, difficult decisions in a supervised environment. Airway control and acute resuscitation are especially challenging in this patient population.
