and possibly have questions concerning the specialty in general or our department
specifically. This website has been designed to answer some general questions
about a career choice in anesthesiology and to give you an overview of our
department. Our department is committed to providing the highest quality training
for residents so that they may go out and have a long, productive career as
physician consultants in anesthesiology.
Please look through our website to get a better idea of what we offer in residency training. You will find that there is very little that you will see out in practice that you will not have already been exposed to here first. We strive to offer the latest teaching modalities as evidenced with our simulator program. Our didactic training allows the resident to attend lectures and conferences to prime their own reading programs. Each year, we sponsor the Postgraduate Symposium on Anesthesiology with truly dynamic speakers who are well known throughout the country in the field of anesthesiology. April 2008 was the 58th symposium which makes it the longest running meeting of its kind in the Midwest.
The clinical experiences we offer are second to none. We are a Level 1 trauma center, organ transplant center and have one of the most active cardiac hospitals in the Midwest. You will be exposed to patients ranging from sick premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit to the elderly patient with valvular, coronary and other cardiac diseases.
