Department laboratories are located on the first, second, and
fifth floors of Wahl Hall East, and on the first and second floors
of the adjoining Lied Research Building, and contain state-of-the
art instrumentation. Additionally, the department operates the Electron
Microscopy Research Laboratory, which is located in the basement
of Lied, and is available to all investigators at KUMC. Also
located in the basement of Lied and managed by the department
is the Confocal Imaging Facility .
Core departmental equipment is modern and extensive and includes
a cooled CCD digital imaging workstation for light microscopy,
a phosphorimaging system, a variety of centrifuges and other
apparatus for a wide range of molecular, biochemical and morphological
investigations.
These
departmental core items are supported further by the Biotechnology
Support Facility that uses state-of-the-art instrumentation for
nucleotide and amino acid synthesis and sequencing and microarray
analysis, and a Transgenic
Core Facility that is housed in an adjacent animal care building.
