Alzheimer's Disease Center (ADC) Program Registry

This study is funded with a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH). This study is enrolling adults aged 60 and older without memory problems, or 55 and older with memory problems, to participate in our ADC program registry. Adults will receive a series of three visits, including memory assessments, cognitive testing, lab draws, and physical function testing. These visits will be conducted on an annual basis. All subjects are asked to bring a study partner to the first visit.

Supervised Exercise Program in Early Alzheimer's Disease (ADEPT)

This six-month study will enroll 80 participants 55 years and older who have early Alzheimer's disease. Participants will attend an exercise facility close to home and perform cardiovascular exercise or do stretching and toning exercises 4 days a week. The participant will have memory assessments, MRI scans, laboratory sampling and fitness testing. This study is examining if aerobic exercise slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease. This study is also funded with a grant from the NIH.

Trial of Resistance Training in Alzheimer's Susceptibility (TORTIAS)

This is a 12- week supervised resistance training program looking at the effect of resistance (strength) training on aging and memory. Exercise sessions will be at an affiliated facility with a exercise an trainer. Gym membership and personal trainer fees are paid by the study. We are seeking participants aged 60-75 without memory problems who are not currently engaged in vigorous physical activity multiple days of the week.

Insulin For Memory (INFORM)

This study characterizes the relationship between insulin sensitivity and memory. This study will consist of a one-time, 5-6 hour visit to measure insulin sensitivity using a procedure called a hyperinsulinemic clamp. Insulin in the body will be increased to approximate levels that are experienced following a meal, and short memory tests will be given prior to and during increased insulin. Glucose will be administered along with insulin to maintain normal blood glucose levels. Compensation for participation is $75. To participate in this study, individuals must be part or be willing to enroll in the ADC Registry.

Measuring Physical Activity in Adults with and without Alzheimer's (MPA)

The purpose of the study is to understand the types and amounts of physical activities older adults do in their everyday life. This is a 1 week study in which participants wear a small electronic monitor that measures the amount of activity they do throughout the day. Participants or study partners will keep a diary of the participant's daily activities. At the end of the study, participants and their caregivers will be compensated up to $100 for their participation.

Safety of R-pramipexole in Alzheimer's Disease (SPA)

The R-pramipexole study is sponsored by the Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Foundation. The purpose of this study is to test the safety and tolerability of this study medication in 20 participants with Alzheimer's disease. This is a 6 month study with study visits every two months. The participants will take the study medication at home.

Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative-ADNI-2

This study is a continuation of the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and is enrolling subjects with and without memory problems due to Alzheimer's disease, This observational study will require subjects to complete paper and pencil memory testing, have MRI scans, FDG and AV 45 PET scans, and collection of biomarker samples. The study will require visits once per year for several years.

ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE)

This study is sponsored through the National Institute on Aging and is enrolling adults aged 65 and older who do not have memory problems. The study seeks to understand how low doses of aspirin may help promote healthy aging and may help to prevent Alzheimer's disease. At this time, the National Institute on Aging is only enrolling individuals who are not Caucasian. Study subjects will complete two screening visits during the first year of the program, and attend annual study visits for a period of five years.
