Below is information about programs, resources and scholarships offered for students by external organizations. KU makes no guarantee of the accuracy or eligibility requirements presented on this page and students are strongly encouraged to contact the organizations below for up-to-date information about these programs.
Many opportunities are also available for current students and for Kansas residents of diverse backgrounds.

Targets women who:
work in a paid or non-paid capacity and are recommended to participate in the program by a current Central Exchange member or other business member; desire to improve professional and/or personal skills through education and mentoring; whose membership in the Central Exchange would pose significant financial hardship on her, and, if applicable, her family; are ready and able to participate in the program, including participation in an operational committee of the Central Exchange and attendance at a minimum of 12 AHEAD designated programs or events during the year; are supported by employer for participation in the Central Exchange; have family support for participation in the Central Exchange.
AHEAD is a new endowment fund established in honor of our 2000 Woman of the Year and Founding Member, Adele Hall. There is a rich and diverse base of women in Greater Kansas City who up to now, have not had the access or development opportunities obtainable through The Central Exchange.
The AHEAD program is designed so those individuals have an alternative way to
become part of The Central Exchange. This membership is an immersion program intended to offer participants full exposure to the core values, mission and human resources available through The Central Exchange.
Eligibility: Minority women who wish to improve themselves through social and business contact opportunities. No dollar amount - rather discount on membership to The Central Exchange. Submission deadline: January

Mission: The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Kansas City, Kansas, is an organization whose membership consists of women representing business, industry, civic, education, health related, service oriented, commercial and other interests in the Greater Kansas City, Kansas community. The organization exits to foster the common good of both the community and its residents by promoting the strengths of women and their contribution in leadership roles. Their mission statement reads, “Sharing Our Gifts Through Leadership and Partnerships”.

Annual awards for female college students. Students MUST be sponsored by one of the 1,900 local chapters of the ABWA. Recipients must be US citizens with financial need. Awards amount, number of awards, and due dates vary from chapter to chapter.
MISSION: The mission of the ABWA is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program is administered by the United Negro College Fund, in partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the American Indian College Fund. The GMS provides merit-based scholarships that cover the remaining college costs minority students face after universities award financial aid packages.
Awards cover room, board and tuition for at least 1000 high school students a year. To be eligible for nomination, students must: (1) be a student with at least a 3.3 GPA; (2) be accepted into or enrolled full-time in an accredited four year undergraduate degree program or accepted or enrolled in a graduate degree program or accepted or enrolled in a graduate degree program in mathematics, science, engineering, education or library science for the academic year 2000-2001; (3) demonstrate leadership skills and community involvement; and (4) show significant financial need. This fund provides scholarships to both entering college and continuing college students of Hispanic descent living in the Kansas City metro area. The LULAC National Educational Service Center (LNESC) of Kansas City is the main distributor of the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Scholarship Fund application. To be eligible students must enroll full-time, show proof of enrollment and family income. Students must complete an application and write an essay. Recipients will be notified in mid April.
Amount: $250 - $1200

HISTORY: The LULAC National Educational Service Centers was established in 1973 by members of the League of United Latin American Citizens, the oldest Hispanic organization in the country. LNESC is an independent non profit 501(c) 3 educational organization dedicated to increasing educational opportunities for Hispanic Americans through development and implementation of high quality educational programs in the Hispanic community throughout the United States.
MISSION: The Mission of LNESC is to provide the highest quality education opportunities. LNESC believes that it is through educational empowerment that members of the Hispanic community will maximize their personal and educational potential in order to become lifelong learners and leaders. LNESC accomplishes this by upholding three core beliefs:
That education is the foundation for personal growth.
That each individual is a contributor to advancing the mission of the LNESC.
That LNESC always strives for excellence in the services it provides.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)

HSF offers different scholarship programs for students of various educational backgrounds. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents of Hispanic heritage.
The Scholarship Program is available to full-time students at an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Interested applicants must have completed at least 15 undergraduate credits with a minimum GPA of 2.7. This scholarship is available on a competitive basis to undergraduate and graduate students. The application postmark deadline is October 15th. Applications are available from August to October on the HSF website.
LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF)

Approximately 70 LULAC Councils raise grass roots scholarship funds which are matched nationally by sponsoring corporations. Since 1929, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has considered education its number one priority.
Established in 1975, the LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) provides scholarships to Hispanic students attending colleges and universities. Under this program, local LULAC Councils, in partnership with local and national businesses, award scholarships to students in their communities. LNSF is administered by the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc., a non-profit educational organization established by LULAC to provide educational programs for Hispanics and other youth.
