The KU General Diagnostic Ultrasound & Vascular Technology Program is a 40-hour per week, hospital-based certificate program covering studies in the abdomen, OB/GYN, physics, vascular technology and vascular physics. The program length is 18 months (5 academic semesters). The program cost is $1000 per semester, subject to change.

The prerequisites to apply are as follows (no exceptions are made):
- Applicant must have completed, or be currently enrolled in, at the minimum a 24-month
Radiologic Technology Program (60 semester credit hours or 84 quarter credit hours).
Please note: The required RT program is not available at the University of Kansas – please use the links at right for schools offering accredited AART programs.
- Applicants must be a Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or must be registry-certified
before program start date in September.
- Post-secondary credits, with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, are required in the following courses:
• English/Communication Skills
• Physics (general)
If radiology transcript does not reflect radiation biology credit)
• Biology (basic)
(If post-secondary transcript does not reflect anatomy and
physiology or biology credit)
• Algebra
- The student will be required to pass the ARRT registry exam before entrance into the ultrasound program.
Before you start the online application
It will be helpful if you have the following information ready before starting the online application:
- Personal Statement: Please explain in your own words (typed, 500 words or less) why you are interested in the KU Diagnostic Ultrasound Technology program and the field of sonography in general.
- Proof of ARRT certification: Students currently in school may substitute proof of certification with a signed letter from a current program director stating the applicant is in good standing. Please note: KU does not offer a Registered Radiologic Technology program; visit our website for a list of schools which may provide the ARRT registry certification.
- References: Have available the names and contact information (including email addresses) of three (3) individuals. References should be from your program director/manager, didactic and/or clinical instructors, radiologists and/or co-workers from your radiology program or current or former employer in radiology. Make sure they are willing to submit the reference electronically, and inform them that they will be receiving an email from “KU Medical Center<help@applyweb.com>” requesting them to submit a reference for you online.

- English Language Proficiency: All applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through either the TOEFL or IELTS testing systems. The test must have been taken within two (2) years of the first semester of enrollment. Results must be provided directly to KUMC by the testing service using ETS school code 6895. Photocopies of scores will not be accepted.
- Transcripts: Arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university that you have attended sent directly to KU Medical Center at the following address:

International Students:
An applicant is considered an international student if he or she requires a visa, or currently resides in the U.S. with non-immigrant status, or currently resides in the U.S. while applying for permanent residency. Additional requirements and documentation, such as proof of English language proficiency, are required for international students to become eligible for KU programs.

International Transcripts: In addition to sending an official copy of each transcript, as above, have your transcripts evaluated by World Education Services OR Educational Credential Evaluators. The evaluation must include course-by-course evaluation, grade evaluation, and indicate the degree earned in U.S. terms (bachelors, masters, doctorate, etc). An official copy of the evaluation is required.

Alternatively, you may send a check made payable to KUMC for $25 (U.S.) for evaluation by the KU Graduate Application Processing Center. If this option is selected, the official transcripts must arrive at least 2 weeks prior to the admission deadline.
