Arrange to have one official copy of transcripts from each college and university that you have attended sent directly to the department.

All applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through either the TOEFL or IELTS testing systems. The test must have been taken within two (2) years of the first semester of enrollment. Results must be provided directly to KUMC by the testing service using ETS school code 6895. Photocopies of scores will not be accepted. Please review the information for international students before applying.

Before you start the online application

It will be helpful if you have the following information ready before starting the online application. Please note: Reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of this program, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for admission.

  • Letter of Professional Goals: Prepare a statement of academic interests and professional goals. Include relevant work experience and positions held, a description of your most notable professional accomplishments, and a discussion of how graduate education will contribute to the attainment of your career goals. The statement should be no more than 300 words.
  • Statement of Research Interests: Briefly describe (1-2 paragraphs) the area in which you see a need for research.
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume
    The CV or resume must be up-to-date and include information on the applicant's educational, professional, and research background. Please include as much of the following information as possible:
     Research experience/publications/abstracts
     Awards and honors
     Intellectual pursuits (continuing education, seminars attended, lectures, etc.)
     Leadership roles (officer in organization, administrator at job, service to professional/service organizations)
     Professional presentations
     Teaching/mentoring experience

  • References: Have available the names and contact information (including email addresses) of three (3) individuals who can provide a professional recommendation on your behalf.Those who can comment meaningfully on your work in an academic or professional setting are best suited to submit letters of recommendation.The recommendations may not be obtained from family members, friends, etc.
    Make sure they are willing to submit the reference electronically, and inform them that they will be receiving an email from “KU Medical Center <
    help@applyweb.com>” requesting them to submit a reference for you online.

International Students:
An applicant is considered an international student if he or she requires a visa, or currently resides in the U.S. with non-immigrant status, or currently resides in the U.S. while applying for permanent residency. Additional requirements and documentation, such as proof of English language proficiency, are required for international students to become eligible for KU programs. Please review the information for international students before applying.

International Transcripts: In addition to sending an official copy of each transcript, as above, have your transcripts evaluated by World Education Services OR Educational Credential Evaluators. The evaluation must include course-by-course evaluation, grade evaluation, and indicate the degree earned in U.S. terms (bachelors, masters, doctorate, etc). An official copy of the evaluation is required.

Alternatively, you may send a check made payable to KUMC for $25 (U.S.) for evaluation by the KU Graduate Application Processing Center. If this option is selected, the official transcripts must arrive at least 2 weeks prior to the admission deadline.

Online Application and Fee

Applicants must submit their initial application and pay the non-refundable application fee online by the posted deadline.

Using the link above, please submit your completed application and pay the $60 application fee. The application fee is paid when you click SUMBIT from the online application. Applicants can pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or by Electronic Check. U.S. banks only. Application fees are non-refundable. Electronic checks will be held for approximately six business days while the check clears.

Applications are not reviewed until all of the requested information is received.
