Professional Background
As chair of the KU Department of Health Information Management, Karl Koob manages administrative duties in the areas of strategic planning, development, budgeting, and personnel. He is also the course director of HEIM 360 Record Documentation Systems, HEIM 460 Data Classification Systems, HEIM 567 Healthcare Quality Controls, HEIM 590 Knowledge Management, HEIM 525 Data Base Management for EHR, HEIM 435 Fundamentals of Medicine and HEIM 661 Healthcare Management. Koob also helped establish a Cerner-based EHR training program in cooperation with the KU School of Nursing,
In addition to his educational and administrative duties, Koob serves as a board member of the Student Union Corporation, the Center for Health Informatics and KU HealthPartners, Inc.
Academic Background
Koob earned a Basic and Advanced Medical Officers diploma from the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences in 1986. He received a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from the University of Kansas in 1996 and a Master of Management Information Systems from Friends University in 2001.
