Applications for admission to the PhD program in Medical Nutrition Science are reviewed by the Admissions Committee of the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, with the approval of the Office of Graduate Studies. Qualified students will be admitted without regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, age or disability.
Before you start the online application
It will be helpful if you have the following information ready before starting the online application:
- Arrange to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test. Your application cannot be
completely processed until we have received your scores. Use institution code 6895 and department
code 0214 to have an official copy of your scores mailed directly to our office.
- Transcripts: Arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university that you have attended sent directly to KU Medical Center at the following address:

Degree awarding university transcripts must indicate bachelors or masters degree conferred.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation from academic advisors, faculty or supervisors
- If English is a second language, applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and arrange for scores to be sent directly to the KU Department of Dietetics and Nutrition. A satisfactory score on the TOEFL must be obtained within the previous two (2) years (see guidelines for TOEFL).

The application fee is paid when you click SUMBIT from the online application. Applicants can pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or by Electronic Check. U.S. banks only. Application fees are non-refundable. Electronic checks will be held for approximately six business days while the check clears.
Applications are not reviewed until all of the requested information is received.
International Students:
An applicant is considered an international student if he or she requires a visa, or currently resides in the U.S. with non-immigrant status, or currently resides in the U.S. while applying for permanent residency. Additional requirements and documentation, such as proof of English language proficiency, are required for international students to become eligible for KU programs.

International Transcripts: In addition to sending an official copy of each transcript, as above, have your transcripts evaluated by World Education Services OR Educational Credential Evaluators. The evaluation must include course-by-course evaluation, grade evaluation, and indicate the degree earned in U.S. terms (bachelors, masters, doctorate, etc). An official copy of the evaluation is required.

Alternatively, you may send a check made payable to KUMC for $25 (U.S.) for evaluation by the KU Graduate Application Processing Center. If this option is selected, the official transcripts must arrive at least 2 weeks prior to the admission deadline.
