The Academic Affairs committee has considered requests by three separate departments to make changes to their curricula, with requested actions including the implementation of new courses, reorganization of course content among existing courses, altering the credit hour weight of these courses, cross-listing of courses among curricula, and elimination of redundant course listings. All proposals met with the approval of the Academic Affairs committee members, and for further actions were forwarded to the Acting Dean or to the Graduate Council, as appropriate.
Thanks to the staff of the Health Information Management office, new (clean!)
forms have been created for use in future requests for consideration of curricular
change.
Electronic
versions of these forms (in formats compatible with several
widely-used text processing applications) also are available through
PULSE.

The Academic Affairs committee has considered requests from two departments regarding proposed changes to their curricula. A third set of proposed changes are under consideration as of this writing. The requests included implementation of new courses, reorganization of course content among existing courses, altering the credit hour weight of these courses, cross-listing of courses among curricula, and elimination of redundant course listings. Two sets of proposals have met with the approval of the Academic Affairs committee members, and for further actions were forwarded to Dean Miller or to the Graduate Council, as appropriate. We anticipate making a recommendation regarding the third set of proposed changes prior to the Fall 1998 General SAH Faculty meeting.

The Academic Affairs committee has, since Spring 1998, considered proposals for curricular change from six departments in the SAH, and for one proposal originating from the School of Medicine. There have been 75 undergraduate courses and 45 graduate courses reviewed as part of these proposals. Input from this Committee was sought related to curricular aspects for a proposed conversion from an entry-level undergraduate degree to an entry-level graduate degree, and for the creation of a new doctoral degree.
Proposals supported by members of the Academic Affairs committee were forwarded to Dean Miller for consideration. When appropriate, the proposals also were forwarded to the Graduate Council.
In addition, one member of this Committee has taken part in a grievance procedure related to a student's academic performance, as outlined in the SAH Bylaws governing this Committee.
In response to concerns raised by members of the SAH Faculty, the Academic Affairs committee has undertaken the task of updating the policies and procedures related to this Committee's functions. We anticipate that these materials will be available to interested Faculty later this Spring.
