PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Hope 2001 has been a good year for you to date.  Many activities have been discussed for our section this year as well as plans for the future.    May you continue to enjoy a healthy and safe career and life always as well as for you and your families.

Lance Erickson, President-Elect and Program Chair for this year, organized a great meeting in January.  Bill Freede gave an excellent presentation on exposure to Beryllium.  We had a good attendance for this meeting.  Those members in attendance had a great exchange of questions/answers and conservation with our special speaker.   The meal was very good as well as the social networking is always a success.  Eric Wenger and Scott Cogbill have worked to make this year a positive experience for our section.  Our Committees continue to make progress for this year’s activities and plan to do more.  Please see our committee rosters on our web page and tell these members thanks for their contributions when you see them.   Remember, it is never to late to join and work for the local section.

Our Executive Committee decided to organize and sponsor a Spring technical symposium in April, 2001.  The topic will address Fume Hood Safety and other technical topics.   Wes Cochran is heading this Symposia Committee and seeks a few members to assist him with planning this next symposium.   Call Wes to see how you can help.

The Safety and Health Council of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas will be holding their annual conference on February 12, 2001 in Overland Park, KS.   Further information on this conference is available through the S & H Council.  The annual Safety and Health Conference will be held at Tan-Tar-A in May, 2001. If any of you would be interested in helping staff this booth, please let Ken Grist or Steve Ratliff know.  Also, Veterans of Safety, International in partnership with the Department of Safety, Science and Technology is hosting a Safety Conference on March 23,2001 at Central Missouri State University.

Please read the individual Committee Reports for our Mid-America Section on our web page.

At the January, 2001 Meeting, Steve Ratliff (immediate Past-President) was assigned his responsibility to Chair our 2001 Nominating Committee.   Steve started recruiting members for this committee as well as seeking members who wish to run for an officer position.    If you are interested in participating on this Nominating Committee or being a candidate for one of the section officer positions for May 2001- April 2002, let Steve know.

Our next Board Meeting will be on February 13, 2001.  As you consider your profession, I encourage you to join one of our committees and be active.  If you have a suggestion or topic for discussion, please send me the details or come to our next Board Meeting with your idea.

Without You, Our Section Is Missing Out.  Our Members Make the Difference.  Get Involved!

I will look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on February 13, 2001.

Regards,

S. D. Allen Iske, Ph.D., CIH, CSP
