PRESIDENT’S CORNER:

President’s Message

I want to thank everyone for electing me to be part of an organization and a group of people that is committed to the health and safety of all workers.  Over the course of this last year, being a member of the executive council has given me a great opportunity to meet many great people both locally and nationally.  I have many people to thank for helping me become who I am today in this profession but I want to say a special thanks to  Dr. Al Stewart, Diana Bryant, and Ken Grist.

Over the last year and throughout the summer, many people in our section have been active.  As most of you know, Dr. Tom Pierce, a long time local section member and contributor to our profession, has left the Kansas City area for the East Coast.  I am very happy that National AIHA approved his nomination for Fellow Status.  Dr. George Popov (our Local Section Secretary) has been very active with National AIHA.  He has been serving on numerous committees and also as a liaison for National AIHA and Bulgaria.  Diana Bryant, as usual, serves on many national Committees.  Lance Erickson has been compiling a lot of information about our local section and membership for a survey being conducted for National AIHA.  They were asking for a lot of information that I knew I could not provide.  Thanks, Lance.   I realize that many others have and are still currently serving on committees and I want to thank each of you for your efforts.  Keep setting good examples.  For all of you who help the Students at Central Missouri State University (CMSU), keep up the good work.  Other local sections are amazed at the involvement the CMSU students have with our section.

Tonyea Inglis has been actively lining up topics and places to eat for the upcoming year.  As we did last year, we will be trying to mix live presentations, CD presentations of AIHA Teleweb courses, and possibly other types of presentations.  We have also decided to co-sponsor a Hearing Protection / Hearing Conservation seminar, put on by Elliot Berger in the Kansas City area in March 2006.  George Popov and Vicki Bender are both working hard and doing a good job keeping our section together.  It seems like all the work is done by these two individuals.

Thanks again for your support and please call me at anytime to discuss your thoughts or comments.  Even though I will be out of the Kansas City area for most of this next year, I still hope to serve this section and each of you in a respectable manner.
