Must be able to engage in medium to heavy level of physical
activity (see below details.) List below may not be exhaustive
of all physical activities required.
Must be able to contact, and so activate, Emergency
Medical System (EMS) by dialing an available land line
or personal cell phone and communicating verbally with recipient
of call.
Must be able to retrieve closest AED.
Activities include fine and gross
motor and dexterity skills;
reaching, handling and pulling AED from mounted surface
i.e. wall to floor/ground; lifting, carrying and lowering AED
and its supply bag, weighing as much as 7 lbs, from as far
as 100 yards or possibly up or down one flight of stairs in
addition to 100 yards; grasping handle to open AED, removing
equipment contained therein and placing in correct position
on victim.
Must be able to provide adequate/appropriate rescue
breathing.
Activities
include kneeling on hard floor/ground, stooping/bending over
victim, providing rescue breaths in keeping with
American Heart Association (AHA) standards, for an
undetermined period of time, turning/twisting when necessary.
Must be able to perform adequate chest compressions.
Activities include
kneeling on hard floor/ground, stooping/bending over victim,
pushing with appropriate force to compress chest in keeping
with American Heart Association (AHA) standards, turning/twisting
when necessary.
Must be able to read, hear, comprehend, listen to and follow
pictured and verbal instructions on/from AED.
Activities include
reading and comprehending basic English language and ability
to correctly hear and follow directions/instructions received.
Must be able to quickly remove clothing from victim's chest.
Activities
include fine and gross motor and dexterity skills, grasping,
pulling, turning/twisting, such as is required with unzipping,
cutting with scissors and pushing/pulling clothing
away from victim's chest.
Must be able to reach over adult and/or roll adult to properly
place AED pads.
Activities include kneeling on hard floor/ground,
stooping/bending over victim, twisting/turning as necessary,
pushing a victim of undetermined weight, reaching, grasping
and applying pads in proper place.
