Graduate Faculty status is required for eligibility to teach a graduate course, serve on a graduate student's examination or defense committee or to provide oversight for a student's clinical experience or clinical rotation. Recommendations for graduate faculty status are submitted by graduate degree granting departments to the Office of Graduate Studies for Dean of Graduate Studies approval. Graduate Faculty are appointed with either Dissertation, Regular or Special status. Each of these appointment categories is defined in detail in the Academic Catalog.
Submission of a recommendation for appointment to the Graduate Faculty is made by the academic program's Graduate Director (or designee) via the Graduate Faculty SharePoint site. Only the Graduate Director (or designee) has access to use this site. When appointing a non-employee who has no prior record in the University's HR system, a Faculty Affiliate Form must also be submitted at the same time. The faculty affiliate form is used by HR to create a record for a non-employee in the HR system, Graduate faculty appointment information is added to this record and maintained in the University's HR system.
