About Us > Advancement Board
The Advancement Board is an advisory group of more than 80 appointed members, which represents the objectives of the University of Kansas Medical Center, The University of Kansas Hospital and The University of Kansas Physicians, collectively known as the academic medical center. In its first eight years, the Advancement Board for the University of Kansas academic medical center has helped improve Kansas City-area and Kansas medical research and healthcare.
The Board works to develop community and political support for the academic medical center and to bolster philanthropic efforts for education, research and patient care. The full Board meets twice each year, with committee meetings and community affairs events held throughout the year. Under the direction and guidance of the Executive and Oversight Committees, standing committees work to accomplish strategic priorities. The Board Development Committee identifies community leadership in targeted sectors that support a robust advocacy contingency. Government Affairs works to empower board members to understand and respond to federal and state fiscal policy that impact the academic medical center. Community Affairs creates public awareness to engage and educate community leaders and advocates regarding the role of the academic medical center by sponsoring community outreach events.
Since its inception, the board has helped raise funds for The University of Kansas Cancer Center to apply for designation from the National Cancer Institute; pushed for passage of a 2008 Johnson County sales tax initiative that resulted in the newly opened Business, Engineering, Science and Technology Center in Overland Park; and raised substantial support for areas across KU Medical Center and The University of Kansas Hospital, including patient care, cardiac care, neurosciences and biosciences.
Advancement Board Director Jyll Kafer will be happy to answer any questions about the board.|
