| The Newport E100i is a time-cycled, pressure limited adult/pediatric transport ventilator with A/C, SIMV, and Spontaneous (CPAP) modes. The Pressure Relief can be set to vent excess pressure during inspiration. A toggle switch (see back view below) supplies continuous flow from the blender to a reservoir bag for spontaneous breathing during SIMV and CPAP. Control settings include Inspiratory Time in seconds, Peak Flow in L/second, and Breaths per Minute. | ![]() |

Both High and Low Airway Pressure Alarms can be adjusted simultaneously by a single knob. Some models allow the range between the High and the Low Pressure Alarms to be adjusted by pushing in on the Pressure Alarm Set knob. Other models have a fixed 20 cm H20 difference. The Apnea Alarm is a function of the Spontaneous Trigger Indicator. |
| Every patient triggered breath must cause the Airway Pressure needle to pass the Trigger Level setting which causes the Indicator to illuminate. Failure of the Indicator to illuminate will create an Apnea (Spontaneous) Alarm, even though the patient may be breathing. The Trigger Level is manually adjusted. | ![]() |
| There are three gas pathways from the blender. One supplies the ventilator. Another is from the blender flowmeter which is usually connected to the reservoir bag. The third is from an internal bleed from the blender that also supplies the reservoir bag. The blender bleed is controlled by a toggle switch labeled "Continuous Flow" which supplies 9 - 12 LPM when ON. The Continuous Flow toggle is next to the Nebulizer toggle switch (see back view below). Both must be OFF during transport to prevent rapid depletion of cylinder gas. The manual breath button is pneumatically controlled and will deliver a breath for as long as the button is pressed. It can be used when the batteries are low and there is no A/C power. Inspiratory pressure must be limited by the Pressure Relief in this case. |

| The battery pack is attached to the back of the Newport. It lasts approximately 4 hours and takes 1 hour to recharge. The apnea interval switch is also located on the back. An interval of 15 or 30 seconds can be set. This is the length of time without illuminating the Spontaneous Trigger Indicator before the Apnea Alarm activates during SIMV or CPAP. The Low Pressure Alarm is the patient disconnect alarm in A/C. The Apnea Alarm is the patient disconnect in SIMV and CPAP. | ![]() |
