HBO Objectives

After completing this program, the participant will be able to:
  1. Explain the principles involved with HBO therapy using Henry, Boyle, and Dalton's Laws.
  2. List the Emergent, Urgent, and Elective Conditions treatable by HBO as given in class.
  3. State the approximate time, frequency, and pressure generally involved with HBO treatments.
  4. Classify the methods of action of primary verses secondary effects and of oxygenation verses pressurization effects.
  5. Describe the complications associated with HBO including long term complications.
  6. State the absolute contraindications for HBO.
  7. Describe the two types of chambers used and compare the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  8. Explain how the patient is prepared for HBO.
  9. List the signs and symptoms of oxygen toxicity.
  10. Describe how to check the operation of the Sechrist Model 500A Hyperbaric Ventilator.
