Curricular Plan and Requirements for Graduation

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, the basic requirements for a PhD degree in Rehabilitation Science include the following:

  • Successful completion of a minimum of 51 credit hours of studies, comprising 21 credit hours of core courses, 12 credit hours of foreign language or other research skills, 12 credit hours of doctoral dissertation research, and 6 credit hours or cognate/elective courses.
  • Demonstration of competence in the core areas of study and FLORS, by successfully completing one or more parts of a comprehensive examination that qualifies the student for candidacy for the PhD.
  • Satisfactory completion of a dissertation based on an original research work.
  • Successful oral presentation and defense or the dissertation.

Pathobiology of Human Function II A study of the biology of pathological processes that impair hunam function with an emphasis on the neuromuscular system.

Advanced Studies in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation In depth analysis, evaluation and synthesis of current rehabilitation methods for patients with musculoskeletal and connective tissue impairments and dysfunction.

Advanced Studies in Neurorehabilitation Analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of current rehabilitation methods for patients with neuromuscular disease and injury.

Teaching Practicum Instruction in teaching methods and practice in the art of teaching graduate students.

Health Care Statistics Application of basic statistical tests to health care research and clinical questions.

Analysis of Variance Tests under normal theory, multiple comparisons and the effect of departures from the underlying assumptions, and analysis of co-variance.

Instrumental Analysis of Human Function Critical analysis and utilization of equipment and other resources to measure human motion, balance, strength, electrophysiolgical responses, and cardiorespiratory function.

Grant Writing Course All aspects of preparing grant applications are covered.
