Policy on Academic/Professional Conduct in Class

The students in this course are expected to behave and perform in a professional manner.
  1. Academic performance will be assessed according to the parameters set forth in the syllabus of the course.
  2. Students are expected to attend class sessions. Students may be asked to provide written evidence of medical absences. It is at the discretion of the instructor whether work missed due to an absence can be made up at a later date.
  3. In regard to behavior and social attributes, the student is expected to conduct him or herself in a professional manner at al times. This includes, but is not limited to, effectively re presenting the school and the profession; interacting appropriately with peers, academic/clinical faculty and supervisors, and patient/families; maintaining confidentiality of patient information; respecting lines of communication and utilizing channels of authority appropriately, and handling personal and professional frustrations in a mature manner. The student is referred to the Code of Ethics for specific profession for further information regarding professional conduct.
  4. Effective communication with professional colleagues, patients, and families is essential to the successful practice of therapy. The student is expected to develop and utilize above average oral and written use of the English language. Students with documented speech/language disorders which impair communication skills are expected to consult with academic and clinical faculty to negotiate mutually agreeable adaptations or compensatory measures which allow effective communication in some form.
  5. Academic misconduct will be dealt with in a way deemed appropriate by the instructor and respective department chair. Please refer to your department/university guidelines for academic misconduct. Academic misconduct includes but is not limited to:

Students may be subject to verbal or written warnings, reduction of a grade, disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion from this class if any instances arise in areas described above.
