The Research Process (OCTH 725)

Description of Assignments

There are six assignments associated with this course. The first five will be graded, while the 6th is ungraded but required. Assignments #1, #4 & #5 are worth 30 points each. Assignment #2 is worth 10 points and assignment #3 is worth 20 points. Together, the five assignments total 120 points; your grade for the course will be determined by the number of points you accumulate by the end of the course. Note that these assignments are to be completed by students individually - these are NOT group projects!

Assignments #3-5 are available as downloadble textfiles. PC-users should right-click on the "download" link for each assignment link; Mac users should use the "option+click" combination. Once you have a copy of the file, open the file (I recommend using MS Word), complete the assignment, save the file (in MS Word format), then submit the assignment using ANGEL's Dropbox tool.

Please be sure to provide titles for the Dropbox entry - AND for the actual file you send - that clearly identify the content of the disorder summary so I don't receive multiple files entitled 'My assignment'! Please also include your name in both the Dropbox entry AND the file you submit. (for example: "Radel_Assign#3")

  2. Visit the AOTA website and use your AOTA membership to access the on-line issues of AJOT then locate three (3) research articles in AJOT that report using human subjects. Print a copy of the reference (authors, title, volume & pages) and the abstract for each article, describe briefly how subjects participated (e.g., "10 male and 10 females, aged 20 -25 years, completed surveys"), indicate if the authors specifically state anything about obtaining "informed consent", and then submit these pages to the instructor in hardcopy during class.
Assignment #3: Testable HypothesesThis assignment poses eight (8) questions. For each question, develop a testable hypothesis, type your hypothesis into the space provided and save the file, then the assignment. Use no more than 50 words for each hypothesis.
