Context of Occupations
(OCTH 445)

Needs Assessment Poster

For this assignment you are to create a poster presentation that summarizes your assessment of the setting, pulls the information together, identifies priorities and beginning ideas for possible OT interventions. The posters will be displayed with each group standing by the poster. In addition to the poster, you need to provide a one-page handout that summarizes the most important points of the poster. Faculty, senior MOT students, and graduate students will view the posters and may ask you questions about your project. Your fellow students will do the same. The individuals that are the focus of this assignment also will be invited to the poster session.

Rules & Regulations!

  1. This assignment also may be viewed as an exercise in cooperative interactions among group members. This means that all members of the group must participate equally and fully in the project. All members of the group will share the same final grade for the project.
  2. Photographs are a useful means to convey selected forms of information, but do not include more than one photograph of the person you have interviewed.
  3. Remember that the context encompasses a person's disability (if one is present) but as only one factor to consider. An over-emphasis on the nature of the disability at the expense of considering other factors or features of the environment will result in a lower grade.
  4. Encourage the individuals you have interviewed to attend the poster presentation if possible.
  5. The poster should be organized logically such that someone unaware of the context issues and OT frameworks that emphasize an understanding of context can understand how you approached the assignment and why you arrived at your final conclusions.
  6. The poster should be no larger than 4 feet high and 6 feet wide, and the information should be readable from a distance of at least 6 feet away.
