Occupational Therapy Education
The written portion of this assignment will be worth 10 points, and is due in class on Jan 31st. I expect all students to be prepared to participate in a class discussion.
You've been asked to pair up with 1-2 other students, then to explore a public setting from the viewpoint of the physical context provided by that environment. In order to help you to consider this activity from another's viewpoint, you must discuss the setting from the perspective of someone who has either low endurance (a cardio-pulmonary disorder, for instance) or who has a communication disorder (fluent aphasia, for instance). Please indicate which impairment you've selected in your analysis
Write down your insights, listing a handful (4-5) descriptors with examples. Choose one prominent feature of the environment that could be a barrier, or one that could be a facilitator, or one that could be both. Be prepared to discuss the setting, your insights, and the nature of that particular physical feature during class. Part of your grade will include an evaluation of your ability to write and speak clearly, and to present information in a logical, coherent manner.
One version of the written portion of the assignment is to be completed by each set of students. Please submit TWO COPIES of the assignment - one as a paper copy and one as an electronic copy (use ANGEL's dropbox feature). Be sure to include all student names when you submit the assignment! The same grade will be assigned to each member of the group. There is no required format for this assignment, but please try to keep your report to less than two double-spaced pages. Diagrams, maps, etc. may be included in the report if they are helpful in supporting your observations. These materials can be in addition to the two pages of text in the report.
Although you may choose your own destination, here are a few suggestions of possible settings close to the KUMC campus:
