The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) requires its faculty, staff, and students to comply with the United States Copyright Act. Faculty, students and staff shall download, possess, or store only lawfully acquired copyrighted materials and use, adapt, distribute, or perform them only in ways consistent with the Copyright act, associated case law, the Fair Use principle, and the intellectual property rights of others.
The purpose of this policy is to assure that the intellectual property rights of the creators of original works are protected and to protect the University, its employees, and its students from sanctions and penalties occasioned by copyright violations.
All created content covered by the Copyright Act irrespective of format (print, electronic, other), including (but not limited to) books, articles, drama, verse, movies, videos, audio, games, and all other covered content.
KUMC faculty, staff, and students
Copyright Act: the U. S. Copyright Law of 1976, as amended (Title 17, United States Code)
Fair Use: the use of a copyrighted work for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, research or parody. The circumstances under which “fair use” may be asserted for teaching, scholarship, or research are limited.
This policy applies to everyone at all campuses and sites of the University of Kansas Medical Center. There are no exemptions.
