There are several options available for communicating your message to the KUMC community. The guiding principal is to facilitate communication to our students, staff, and faculty in a relevant, timely manner to those needing the information. For more information, see the Campus-Wide Communication Guidelines.
Campus Calendar of Events ( http://www2.kumc.edu/calendar)
The Campus Calendar of Events is the primary KUMC vehicle for communicating information about events.
All KUMC-related events should be publicized here. The next three events occurring, updated hourly, are posted to the KUMC homepage. Users of the calendar can filter their view based on event category, and can print the day's events. You can easily submit events to the calendar from the 'Add Events' button. Those affiliated with a department or organization that sponsors many events can request to have their own calendar. Events from these custom calendars can either be 'rolled up' into the master KUMC calendar, or kept completely separate from other KUMC events. For more information about custom calendars, contact Jameson Watkins.
myKUMC Announcements (https://my.kumc.edu)
The myKUMC portal
provides personalized access to web-based information. The “Manage Topics” button enables members of the KUMC community to receive announcements from the groups they choose in the manner they choose to receive them, by display or direct to their KUMC email address. You can request to create a new announcements group or administer an existing group by contacting Jameson Watkins.
Broadcast Email
The distribution of group ("broadcast") email to large groups of employees, faculty, or students is restricted to select communications originating from the Deans; the Executive Vice CHancellor's Office; the Offices of the Vice Chancellors for Academic Affairs, Support Services, and the Research Institute; and Student Services. For further information, please contact those units.
Personal and Shared Email Groups
Employees, student groups, and other event sponsors are encouraged to develop and maintain their own email message groups through the use of GroupWise "Shared Personal Groups." For more information about how to do this, see Creating Personal Address Books and Groups and Sharing Resources tips as part of the larger Computing & Technology Tutorials and Online Reference site.
Mailing Lists (listservs)
An alternative to GroupWise-based personal groups, a listserv allows users to join a group by either email or a web-based form. Owners of a list can auto-subscribe users and set multiple options related to how email is sent, and group members can set options on how they receive email, including digest weekly summaries of postings. Listservs are best used with large groups of people who may not be affiliated directly with KUMC.
Classified Ads & Equipment Exchange (http://www2.kumc.edu/classifieds)
Those needing to sell, buy, or trade both personal and KUMC-related products can use this site to do so. The Classified Ads link is located on the Faculty/Staff section of the KUMC homepage. Categories include automotive, carpooling, fitness and sports, for sale, garage sales, housing needed, pets, and more.
The Equipment Exchange site, linked from the Classified Ads site, is available for offering equipment for inter-office exchange. This includes furniture, computers, and other office equipment.
Both have the most recent items displayed in the Services tab in myKUMC.
SharePoint
SharePoint collaboration spaces allow for small group collaboration that includes a shared calendar, announcements, document management, issue tracking, workflow, and much more.
