Newsletter No. 7 of the ASP, dated May, 1973 announced the winner of the contest to provide an emblem for the Society. The guidelines specified that the emblem should be simple, should show the name of the Society and its founding date, and should be readable when reduced to letterhead size, or blown up for a banner. It was to be attractive, artistic and modern.
Dr. J. Eisinger of Bell Laboratories submitted the winning entry. He received a $50 prize for his efforts. Dr. E.D. Bickford of Sylvania was a very close second. A total of 31 entries were received. The winning entry differed from the one shown here in that it included the Society name wrapped around the larger circle.
